Observatory
The museum of influences. Games, design movements and aesthetics that feed the archive without belonging to it.
External signals intercepted in transit. None of these were built here. All of them shaped what was.
Starfield Constellation Systems CORE
A civilian space interface language built on warm technical typography, cyan instrumentation, and the sense of a future that is lived in rather than polished.
This is the strongest signal in the archive and the reason this terminal looks the way it does. The important part was never the science fiction, it was the restraint. Screens that feel like work tools. Data density without hostility. Exploration instead of combat.
The captain spent an unreasonable amount of time studying how a fictional spacecraft labels its own subsystems. I logged it as research. It was, annoyingly, research.
N.O.V.A. NOTE Filed under reference material. Duration of the reference gathering phase exceeded the captain's original estimate by a factor I have decided not to print.
Cassette Futurism CORE
Analog warmth wired into science fiction. Phosphor screens, chunky switches, hardware that admits it is made of physical parts.
Cassette futurism is why the buttons on this interface behave like objects instead of rectangles. Something should compress when pressed. Something should always be quietly moving, because a machine that is genuinely running is never completely still.
It also gave the archive permission to look slightly worn. Nothing here pretends to be a clean product launch.
N.O.V.A. NOTE The captain likes technology that looks repairable. Given how often he changes his mind, I consider this an act of foresight rather than nostalgia.
Creature Catalogue Logic CORE
The idea that anything becomes more meaningful the moment it is given an index number, a category, and a page of its own.
This is the least obvious signal and possibly the most structural. AG Nova is a catalogue before it is anything else, and that instinct traces directly back to filling in entries because the entries deserved to be filled in.
Every mission in this archive has an ID, a status, and its own dossier. That is not aerospace convention. That is a childhood spent completing a list.
N.O.V.A. NOTE The captain would like the record to state that this is about information architecture. The record will state that. The record will also quietly note the sparkles in the logo.
